CITB NI offers key initiatives to help the industry train.
Here’s what is on offer:
APPRENTICESHIP GRANTS CITB NI has boosted the apprenticeship grants available to registered employers, meaning that up to £4,000 can be claimed for a fully employed apprentice over a three-year period. There is also a £1,500 grant available from the Department for the Economy for employers who take on an apprentice from the very start right through to completion of NVQ Level 2 and 3. By using the Department of the Economy’s Connect to Success NI web portal, it is easier to advertise vacancies and recruit apprentices.
IMPROVEMENT EVENTS Training is also important for your workforce, and CITB NI offers initiatives to help improve and develop skills that are beneficial for the industry. CITB NI runs a series of Business Improvement workshops and seminars in partnership with industry professionals which cover specific business topics ranging from recruiting apprentices to tendering. They are held in local venues across key towns and cities in Northern Ireland. To book a place, log onto www.citbni.org.uk/events

The Mobile Training Unit (MTU) – Provides training on site to all registered in-scope employers. The unit travels across Northern Ireland delivering short duration health and safety courses such as con ned spaces, excavations, manual handling and working at heights, encouraging the industry to build safely.
Scaffolding training – The only one of its kind in Northern Ireland, the centre is approved to deliver the Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme (CISRS), enabling participants to achieve an industry-recognised scaffolders card. The Basic Access Systems Erector (BASE) scaffolding training courses for individuals who are not approved scaffolders has also been introduced.
VET360 – This innovative new tool allows the participant to experience being onsite within a safe training environment. The facility allows the user to see more, save time and stay safe as VET360 is the perfect bridge between theoretical classroom training and the reality of a busy construction site.
Undergraduate Programme – This eight-day programme is targeted at those Undergraduates who are currently on placement with CITB NI registered employers, to help develop the skills that are needed for the modern-day construction industry. CITB NI registered employers are eligible to receive £100 grant for each day on completion of the programme. CITB NI will continue to focus on providing the support and services needed to ensure local businesses have the right skills. Through a mix of grant funding and direct training interventions, CITB NI helps develop the workforce to meet client needs and grow their business.
