The Doyen, Belfast
It has been a busy few weeks for Lowry Building & Civil Engineering as the company has completed the impressive refurbishment of The Doyen and also won the prestigious Best Commercial Project at the FMB Master Builder Awards in London.
The build consisted of a traditional build 7-classroom school on the site of the previous Convent of Mercy Primary School, along with the construction of a new youth club building, sports hall, community and games room, and ancillary accommodation.
New build construction was undertaken by Killowen Contracts Ltd, with the company completing the £5.10million, 50,000sqft project over a 15- month contract, providing ‘fit for purpose’ accommodation for people living with a learning disability, physical disability, acquired brain injury, as well as patients discharged from hospital suffering from dementia.
Sports Facilities – Sullivan Upper High School, Holywood
The impressive new building includes changing/toilet facilities and an additional upper floor of multipurpose space with a dance/drama studio and offices. It also includes a full-size gymnasium, an Astro turf hockey pitch with spectator areas, fencing and floodlighting, and even a long jump facility. New viewing galleries and balconies that look out over the front pitches are just two aspects of this impressive project, expertly built by RJ McKelvey.
