Established in 1959, Hood McGowan Kirk LLP (HMK) provides quantity surveying and project management services to clients throughout the UK and Republic of Ireland.
The company has built a strong reputation for effective service delivery and has recently strengthened its management team with the internal promotion of two new partners.
Ciara Maitland has been with HMK for 10 years and is responsible for the management of the office including procurement, accounts and human resources. In recent years Ciara has also taken on a project management role and was involved in the recently completed Colby House office refurbishment for NISRA and several new build school projects under the CPD Project Management Framework. Ciara is a member of the Chartered Institute of Building.
Also joining Ciara as a new partner is Andrew Maxwell. Andrew joined HMK in 2016 following his return from London, having worked for a prestigious city surveying practice where he gained a wealth of experience in both project management and quantity surveying.
His key sector experience includes commercial office, education and residential. Andrew is currently providing project management services on a number of school projects for the Department of Education and quantity surveying services for a diverse range of public and private clients across a number of sectors. Andrew is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and Association of Project Management.
Recent high profile projects for HMK include the prestigious Main Site Tower & Peter Froggatt Centre for Queen’s University, Belfast. HMK provided a full quantity surveying service on this award-winning scheme, which involved a partial demolition and refurbishment of a 1960’s building to provide a contemporary teaching and learning environment while respecting the legacy of historic buildings within the remarkable setting of the University’s central quad. The scheme was awarded several accolades, but notably within HMK’s professional body it won the RICS Award for Design through Innovation 2017.
HMK is also providing project management and quantity surveying services for one of the most significant Belfast city centre projects in recent years – the Grand Central Hotel for Hastings Hotel Group. This project will see the iconic office block of Windsor House in Bedford Street transformed into a new 4 star hotel.
Significant investment has been made in the practice in 2017 including the introduction of BIM capability across all staff, a full IT upgrade, leased line fibre and VOiP telecoms along with the appointment of a senior quantity surveyor with international experience. Looking to 2018, Andrew and Ciara, together with the current partner, Michael Jordan, will continue to modernise the business whilst maintaining and building on HMK’s strong reputation within the construction industry.
