No sooner had the candles been blown out to celebrate Hood McGowan Kirk LLP’s 60th anniversary than focus was firmly fixed on the future.
Building on foundations laid over the past six decades, HMK is now forging ahead as a leading construction consultancy, providing cutting- edge quantity surveying and project management services to its industry-leading client base. Charting HMK’s path are Andrew Maxwell MRICS and Ciara Maitland MCIOB, who joined existing Partner, Michael Jordan MRICS, back in 2017. Their vision, to augment the company’s reputation for reliability and its long-term relationships with clients such as Queen’s University (Belfast) and The Hastings Hotel group with an innovative and contemporary approach.
This restructuring permeates through every level of the business. The recent move to state-of-the-art, easily accessible premises in south Belfast; a new company logo and re- launched, informative, and easy-to-navigate website www.hmkni.com; together with substantial investment in the IT infrastructure with Rainbow Telecoms, and upgraded software from supplier Causeway, including training seminars.Perhaps the greatest area of development has been in the services provided by HMK.
Underpinned by the pledge to be Proactive, Informed, and Accurate in everything they do, the company continues to be a purveyor of top quality quantity surveying, but now also with an increased emphasis on comprehensive project management.
Two accredited NEC Project Managers have been appointed, part of an enhanced HMK project management provision that ensures clients’ aims are achieved across the project life cycle, from conception to completion.

Three prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards in the past three years provide evidence of HMK’s progressive thinking and ability to work across a range of public and private projects. Commercial Project of the Year for the £5m reconfiguration of NISRA’s Colby House; the Design Through Innovation Award for the main site tower and Peter Froggatt Centre at Queen’s University; and the stunning transformation of a former 22-storey office block into the Grand Central Hotel, the largest and most expensively constructed hotel in Northern Ireland – outcomes that exceeded client expectation.
With an eye on value, HMK LLP has proved adept at delivering on projects ranging from £0.5m to £50m, with recent large- scale contracts including QUB’s Student Centre and an Animal Sciences Laboratory for the Department of Agriculture, Environment, and Rural Affairs (DAERA).
