The fourth specialist division to be created by the leading building suppliers, Murdock Civils is based at new premises at Kennedy Way Industrial Estate in Belfast (neighbouring the current Murdock’s branch) but will service the company’s 10 branches across Northern Ireland.
Des Patterson, who has been with the company for 14 years, is the new Sales Manager of Murdock Civils and he heads up a four-strong team that includes Chris Liggett and Peter Richardson, who are both internal sales, and Martin Sullivan, delivery driver and stores.
The launch of this new specialist division is a reaction to customer demand, with the dedicated team focusing on delivering the quality products and service that Murdock’s is renowned for.
Des explained, “This is a growing sector and while Murdock’s has been involved in the civils sector for many years, this specialist division will offer our customers product expertise, quality service, advice and convenience, no matter how big or small the project.
“In addition to having an experienced team, we are also supported by a number of well-known suppliers. Business has been good since we opened on June 20 and the reaction has been really positive. We aim to build on that.”
Murdock Civils specialises in a range of areas including; civils and drainage; geo-technical and groundwork engineering; structural waterproofing; surface water management; concrete repair and protection; as well as street furniture and landscaping.
Current suppliers include well known specialists Fosroc, Clark-Drain, Visqueen, Aco and Glidevale.
“We are already a full stockist centre for Visqueen and full stockists for Clark-Drain and Fosroc, which is a big plus for our customers,” said Des. “We have developed strong working relationships with all our suppliers over many years, which will enable us to carry a substantial and quality range of products to meet the requirements of trade professionals and specialist contractors in a busy civils environment.”
With an impressive stock profile in the new warehouse, the team at Murdock Civils will work directly with customers, including architects, consultants and contractors, to provide technical guidance at every stage of a project. This service is available through all Murdock’s branches – another key aspect of the division.
“With such an extensive product range, this allows every branch to redirect any customer who requires civils products to our dedicated team,” added Des. “It is an enhanced level of service and the reaction from customers across all our branches has been really positive.”
Deliveries can be made across the province, either through the dedicated Murdock Civils lorry or the Murdock Builders Merchant fleet. The company can also deliver across the UK and Ireland.
“Turnaround is paramount to our customers so we aim to make this as seamless as possible,” said Des.
Martin Farrell, Group Commercial Manager for Murdock Builders Merchants, added, “Murdock Civils is now the fourth specialist division in the group, with the Roof Truss and Carcassing departments in Newry, as well as our machined timber plant Cranwood Industries in Warrenpoint.
“With another merchant branch due to open in Dublin in the summer of 2017, the group are continuing to grow and service all sides of the industry at a fast pace, creating a number of new jobs which is positive for us and the industry.”
