RTU at the heart of recent landmark projects in Northern Ireland

‘It is great to see our projects transition into the purpose for which they were intended’...

RTU is incredibly proud of our involvement in some recent landmark projects including the construction of Queen’s University’s Biological Sciences Building, the development of Translink’s Milewater House depot and the refurbishment of Hillsborough Castle. As a leading supplier of ready-mixed concrete, mortar, plaster and screed, it is great to see our projects transition into the purpose for which they were intended.

As with every project, whether commercial, residential or self-build, our commitment to quality, service and performance is absolute. We help to counter the challenges faced by our customers by offering project-specific solutions that ensure hassle-free delivery and peace of mind.

“Extraordinary”, was Prince Charles’ verdict on the completion of Hillsborough Castle’s 5-year, £20m transformation, on which RTU is proud to have been a supplier. Our signature Exposa® Decorative Concrete is used along the stunning pathways that complement the gardens of this historic Royal residence. With visitor numbers forecasted at 200,000 per annum, Exposa® was the perfect choice to provide a beautiful aesthetic as well as the necessary performance, durability and slip resistance for such a prestigious and high volume attraction.

However, you don’t need to be a Royal to enjoy Exposa®, and we have many commercial and self-build clients that have chosen this product to add an exceptional finish to their project. Queen’s University’s new Biological Sciences Building is another key project that has launched this year.

The building facilitates the training of science graduates towards the progression of sectors that generate more than £5.5 billion into the economy each year. RTU provided both mortar and Ultraflo® for this state-of-the-art facility. Our tubbed mortar is known for its quality and strength as well as the array of colours we can provide. Ultraflo® is a unique hemihydrate calcium sulphate liquid floor screed designed for use with underfloor heating. The product guarantees minimal shrinkage and cracking, improved heat responsiveness with underfloor heating, reduced heat lag delay, reduced energy costs, and it is eco- friendly.

Another big launch in 2019 was Translink’s new Milewater Service Centre in north Belfast. This purpose- built facility serves as the main base for the iconic Glider fleet, as well as Translink’s engineering and projects teams. RTU worked with the main contractor, Henry Brothers, to supply a range of materials including concrete, standard building mortar and Speedscreed for the construction of a modern depot that represents a significant investment in Northern Ireland’s infrastructure. Check out our video that demonstrates the size and scale of this project on the video section of our website.
