Team GRAHAM trekked through the Atlas Mountains in North Africa to reach its highest peak, the 13,500ft Mount Toubkal, and raise money for a number of charities including Macmillan Cancer Support, North West Mountain Rescue Team and Mourne Mountain Rescue Team.
The 16 work colleagues had initially hoped to raise £5,000 but smashed their target and raised over £10,000 thanks to their colleagues’ fundraising initiatives such as coffee mornings, hikes and other activities.
Discussing the fundraising trek, Team Leader, Katie Jones, LEAN Manager at GRAHAM, which specialises in the delivery of award-winning building, civil engineering, interior fit-out and facilities management, was delighted with the efforts.
“Sixteen of us flew out from different cities across the UK to take on the challenge in North Africa. Our trek to the summit of Mount Toubkal was extremely tough and it certainly challenged us all. The treacherous terrain was demanding and involved scrambling over boulders and negotiating thick snow.
“However, despite the challenging circumstances, we were able to experience the stunning scenery, breathtaking views across North Africa and the warmth and friendliness of locals during our four-day charity challenge and together we reached the summit. Reaching the top of North Africa and looking across the valleys and mountains is a feeling that will never to be forgotten by any of us.
Katie adds, “The team demonstrated real camaraderie and resilience to complete the hike. The sense of achievement from all was overwhelming and it was a truly unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
“We are really grateful for the support of colleagues who came together to offer encouragement and help with fundraising efforts. GRAHAM actively encourages employees to positively contribute to communities and to get involved in activities that enhance wellbeing and we really value this.”
